The Passion of Mary Cardwell Dawson is based on a true story.

The Passion of Mary Cardwell Dawson makes its highly anticipated debut in North Carolina this February, to celebrate the remarkable founder of the historic and groundbreaking National Negro Opera Company, established in 1941.

Starring superstar mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves in the title role, The Passion of Mary Cardwell Dawson is a moving theater piece by Mark Twain Award-winning playwright Sandra Seaton with music by 2023 Grammy Award Nominee and Kennedy Center Composer-in-Residence Carlos Simon, The Passion of Mary Cardwell Dawson includes selections from the repertory of the National Negro Opera Company with original music.

Samson and Delilah

April 18, 20 & 21, 2024

From Chapter 16 of the Book of Judges, this Biblical drama of seduction and betrayal comes to life in a lavish grand opera. Samson, the leader of the Israelites, can be conquered by none – except the Philistine beauty Delilah – servant of the High Priest of Baal.
