The Opera Carolina Recycles dress designed by Kristen Alyce, Garbage Gone Glam will close out the 4PM Fashion Show with a performance by professional opera singer, Raquel Suarez Groen. Raquel sang with Opera Carolina last season during Art • Poetry • Music, and at The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Beethoven’s Fidelio.

Raquel will be wearing the custom designed Opera Dress made out of recycled opera posters while performing in New York Fashion Week. Megan Miller, Marketing Director will be at NYCFW live with the dress representing Opera Carolina and the Opera Recycles Initiative.

The Garbage Gone Glam dress was made out of the show posters for Opera Carolina’s three 2016/17 season operas and printed on recycled paper. Comprised entirely of the posters and duct tape, this is Garbage Gone Glam’s second year participating in the Opera Recycles program

In addition to this dress walking the runway at New York Couture Fashion Week Opera Carolina commissioned three other dresses to be created by local Charlotte designers. All of which will premier later this month at Charlotte Seen Fashion Week’s Emerging Recyclables Show. Since it’s start in 2015, Opera Recycles has upcycled more than 10,000 pieces of printed marketing collateral.
