Opera Carolina is pleased to announce the appointments of Shalil Giannone as Director of Finance and Eric Broker as Director of Marketing and Communications. Shalil Giannone joins Opera Carolina with extensive experience in both private and public accounting. Following the completion of her CPA certification, she worked in various public accounting firms, including Deloitte in Omaha, Nebraska, where she specialized in their tax practice for high-net-worth individuals. She transitioned to the private sector working in a high-net-worth family office and eventually moved to not-for-profit work. Since relocating to Charlotte, she has worked exclusively with several not-for-profit agencies helping them develop better accounting processes for tracking grants and other functions, implementing technologies to better manage accounting and reporting, and helping agencies prepare for audits.

Eric Broker comes to Opera Carolina as an experienced arts marketer and cultural leader. Previously, he’s worked in marketing in opera, dance, theater, and the visual arts, including previously serving as the Marketing and Communications Director at Minnesota Opera. He is an arts and culture journalist, having served as the arts columnist for Twin Cities Pride Magazine, and an opera singer, having been praised by the Star Tribune for his “smooth, articulate baritone.” He was a fellow with OPERA America, the New Leaders Council, and the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs, and has served as a guest lecturer at The Juilliard School and as a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts. Eric graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from St. Olaf College.

“We’re thrilled to have these exceptional professionals join the Opera team as we add additional staff capacity in preparation for the 75th anniversary season” stated Maestro James Meena, General Director and Principal Conductor of North Carolina’s leading professional opera company. “Shalil and Eric will provide leadership in two key areas that will allow to sustainably expand our reach and impact.”
