Tosca is a roller coaster story of love, lust, murder, and political intrigue. Tosca is in love with the dissident artist Mario Cavaradossi. The head of the secret police wants to capture Mario and seduce Tosca. With Puccini‘s richly romantic score, Tosca is one of the world’s most beloved operas.

Gershwin’s brilliant work expresses the joys and struggles of a black community in Catfish Row South Carolina in the 1930’s. The brilliant combination of music, word, and idea among a complex blend of Americana make this a unique and impressive work both within and beyond the operatic repertory.

A wealthy young man falls for a “working girl” with a big heart and offers her a better life. But class differences may keep them apart. Sound familiar? That’s the plot of Pretty Woman and Moulin Rouge. But first, it was the plot of Verdi’s La traviata.

In normal times, Opera Carolina performs in Charlotte's premiere venues, the Belk and Knight Theaters, in the heart of center city Charlotte. The pandemic hasn’t stopped us from performing: It’s just expanded our venues.
