The 2020/2021 Season

Opera Carolina has planned a season long on action and drama. A season filled with characters whose choices propel their stories forward – toward sometimes tragic and sometimes uplifting ends.

Let the action begin.

Puccini’s

TOSCA

Oct 31 and Nov 1 & 5, 2020

Audiences love it when a villain gets what he has coming to him. We get that satisfaction in Tosca. But tragically, the bad guy isn’t the only one who dies.

Love and death are principal themes of opera, and there’s plenty of both in Tosca – a tale of love’s triumph over politics set in Rome in 1800.

Tosca is a political thriller whose action is set over an explosive 24 hours. It’s full of love and lust, passion and jealousy. The main characters are a patriotic artist, a dishonest policeman and the beautiful opera diva – the larger-than-life Tosca.

Tappin’s

I Dream

Jan 21, 23 & 24, 2021

A look back at the early days of the Civil Rights Movement that would reshape America and transform a preacher from Atlanta into an icon for the ages. Revised for the 2021 performances, our new version includes new music and a completely revised script to bring to life this remarkable story.

Verdi’s

AIDA

April 11, 15 & 17, 2021

Aida, an enslaved Ethiopian princess, is secretly in love with an Egyptian general who’s leading the war against her homeland. But there’s a more personal battle raging. The Egyptian princess whom the regal Aida serves is in love with the same man.

Verdi’s towering masterpiece, Aida, juxtaposes love of country against a deadly love triangle. The action involves Radamès, an Egyptian general; Amneris, the Egyptian princess who loves him; and her handmaiden – the beautiful, enslaved Ethiopian princess, Aida.
