Blurred Lines: A Discussion on Re-Imagining Opera

March 23 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Performing arts -including opera- are mixing genres on the stage more and more and using their performances to positively impact our communities.  How are artists training for and doing this work?  Join the UNC Charlotte Department of Music + Opera Carolina for an exploration of musical fusion – both on the stage and in our communities – through the moving work I Dream.

Conversation will explore how the world of opera is intersecting with other genres of music, how the artform is being used to activate social change, advice for young artists, and a Q&A session.

Moderated by Dr. Sequina DuBose, UNCC Assistant Professor of Contemporary and Classical Voice with

Douglas Tappin, composer & librettist of I Dream

Derrick Davis, actor/singer, who portrays Martin in I Dream (previously starring as The Phantom in the North American touring production of The Phantom of the Opera)

Ashley Johnson Lam, Opera Carolina director of education & community programs
