Donald Hartmann is acclaimed for his commanding presence in leading character portrayals, both vocally and dramatically.Recent engagements have included William Jennings Bryan in the 60th anniversary production of Ballad of Baby Doe with Central City Opera, Sacristan in Tosca with New York City Opera, Dr. Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia for Greensboro Opera, and Sergeant of Police in Pirates of Penzance with Piedmont Opera.He has also sung Swallow in Peter Grimes with Opéra de Montreal, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor with Toledo Opera, Benoit/Alcindoro in La Boheme with Madison Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, and Opera Delaware, Dr. Bartolo Le Nozze di Figaro with North Carolina Opera as well as Opera Delaware, and Luther/Crespel/Schlemeil in The Tales of Hoffman with Michigan Opera Theater.

Dr. Hartmann is a Full Professor of voice in the School of Music at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro.
